WOF Annual meeting 2024

WOF Annual Meeting Nominations 2025 - Vecchi

Elisabetta Vecchi

My name is Elisabetta Vecchi, I am from Italy and I work in IT as Business Analyst and Project Manager. I have been an othello player since 1992, I represented Italy at the WOC in 1996, 2005 and 2010.
I have a long experience in organizing othello tournaments, and I have been in the Italian Federation Council for some time in the 1990s and I was a member of the Rome WOC 2023 organizing committee.
I would be very pleased to be part of the European Othello Council because I have many ideas to share to make Othello grow in all of Europe.

One of these ideas is to organise an Othello summer camp such as was done in the past by the FFO (French Othello Federation). I attended 2 FFO Othello summer camps back in the 1990s and I felt it was great way to both improve Othello and create new friendships. These camps would mix Othello, sporting activities and sightseeing (I attended one in the Pyrenees and one in the Alps). My idea would be to try to organise these summer camps again each year possibily in different countries with the help of several European Othello federations.

I would also like to establish a yearly international XOT (random opening) tournament in Europe. This could be held as a side event during the European championship or during the new summer camps. Another side event that could be fun to organise would be national team matches (like "Italy-Netherlands")  which use to occur occasionally in the past.

I also think the European Grand Prix circuit is a great tradition, bringing European Othello players together at international tournaments for the past 4 decades. I would like to see this tradition continue for many years so I think we need to come up with new ideas to increase participation in the EGP.

Finally my main goal for the European confederation would be to listen and try to support (with the help of the WOF) local federations and help them grow.
Of course In order to realize all the above I will need the support and the help of the other members of the Council, the local Federations and the WOF.
